workshop two
Wrap-around leather journals (Longstitch binding)
Wednesday 25 May 2016 @ 1-5pm
An afternoon class where you'll learn how to make a wrap-around soft-leather journal, hand-stitched using a beautiful long-stitch binding technique and featuring a magnetic closure. We'll use eco-friendly upcycled leathers, an assortment of different papers for the book’s pages, and a colourful range of waxed-linen threads to make one unique and personalised book.
A feature of long-stitch binding technique is the linear pattern of thread sewn along the spine directly through the leather, without the need for glue. This simple hand-sewn binding enables the book to open completely flat and makes it perfect for journals, diaries, notebooks, scrapbooks and sketchbooks.
This workshop is ideal for complete beginners, as well as those who would like to expand their range of bookbinding techniques. You'll be able to examine finished examples of these books, and be inspired by the variations and possibilities.
All bookbinding materials and tools are provided as part of the workshop. And all templates and instructions are also included so you will be able to make more books at home.
