Coptic bookbinding
Sunday 25 September 2016 @ 1-5pm
Coptic stitching is a handsewn bookbinding technique characterised by two hard covers, a spine that is left exposed, and a distinctive chainstitch-style sewing across the spine that allows the book to open beautifully flat, making it perfect for creating your own sketchbooks, notebooks, albums or journals.
In this fun 4-hour bookbinding workshop, you'll learn the traditional craft of Coptic bookbinding by making TWO different books: one with hard covers, and the other covered with soft leather.
We'll use an assortment of different papers/card, a colourful range of waxed-linen thread, and a variety of upcycled leathers (for the soft cover book) to make two unique and personalised books.
All bookbinding materials and tools are provided as part of the workshop. And all templates and instructions are also included so you will be able to make more books at home.
