The first coptic bookbinding class I've yet run, and sadly, the last bookbinding class I'll be running in Sydney (for a long while anyway - who can tell when I'll be back in Sydney again...) - here's an assortment of pics from Sunday's class (held in November):
The workbenches at the NSW Bookbinders Guild provide a great working space to spread out while bookbinding, and the chance for some cross-table conversation as well.
Maryellen and Miwa get stuck into their books.
Some of the sample coptic books I made to take along to show the class.
Starting with the cover and the first signature - the coptic book begins.
The coptic book nearing completion
Maryellen completed the coptic binding in Saturday's class, and came back on Sunday to learn the cross-structure bookbinding technique as well :)
Maryellen's lovely neat sewing! Her red leather book turned out beautifully.

Thanks to all the lovely ladies and gents who have come along for my bookbinding classes these last couple of years - it's been such a delight to teach you!
With the pending move back up to Brisbane (we're packing right now, and moving up this Monday!) and a few other major life changes happening shortly, I'm not completely certain when I'll be able to schedule more bookbinding classes for 2011. But as the year unfolds, I'm hoping there'll be the opportunity to do at least one or two classes in Brisbane in the second half of the year. If you're interested in doing one of these, let me know at the usual email address (michelle@shelbyville.com.au), and I'll add you to my e-mailout so you'll hear first when/if dates & details are confirmed.
Ok, back to packing boxes now...
Michelle
