This one's just a super quick post to let Sydneysiders know about the fantastic Creative Sydney event that's currently taking place at the MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) down at Circular Quay this week. Creative Sydney is actually a part of the Vivid Sydney festival of light, music and ideas (which continues on to the 21st June 2010) but there are only a couple of nights and an all-day Saturday left if you want to come along and enjoy a bit of Creative Sydney goodness.
Tonight's panel discussion (starting at 6:30pm) is:
THE NEW NICHE
Going deep, not broad, to connect with your market: how do creative businesses and practitioners maintain authenticity while expanding audiences? The panel explores the shift from niche to major markets in skate, surf and cycle cultures.

Speakers include Chris Searl & Campbell Milligan (Monster Children), Kathryn Franco (Nutcase) and Alastair Walton (City of Sydney).

And tomorrow night is the final panel discussion:
MAKING IT HAPPEN
What do you need to know before you take on a large production, establish an event or start planning to get your work out there? The panel offers advice from promoters, producers and creative practitioners who carve out their own opportunities and bring challenging projects to fruition.

Speakers include Brooke Johnston and Sarah Thornton (The Finders Keepers), Liz Watts (Porchlight Films), Emil Vrisakis and Chad Ford (Bowl-A-Rama) and Dean Sewell (Oculi Photography Collective).

Creative Sydney concludes with an all-day Saturday event incorporating:
CREATIVE CONNECTIONS
Building a business or establishing a career in the creative industries requires guidance and a network of contacts. This focused networking event exposes opportunities and information sources, and (on registration) connects creative practitioners and entrepreneurs with industry organisations for one-on-one advice and recommendations.

What does creative culture mean in Sydney? What are the wants and needs of Sydneysiders – and are they being met – in our night life, cultural institutions and entertainment quarters?
Leading figures debate the state of Sydney’s creative culture, exploring the sector’s contribution to our quality of life, commercial landscape and cultural diversity. They discuss what Sydney offers to engage the senses, inspire curiosity and fuel the imagination.

I'm a big big big advocate of Creative Sydney, and have really loved the presentations so far (and have taken copious notes which I'm hoping to share in a separate blog post over the weekend...).

Hi Michelle, thanks for such a fantastic wrap up of the event! Everything I missed has been so well documented, and this post will keep me occupied for ages with all the links you have set up. I'll be back with a pot of tea over the next week x
