^ Skirty modelled by my niece Lilli. Styling by Lilli's mummy.
At the Sydney Stitches & Craft Show last August, I picked up a couple of Twirly Whirly Apron Skirty kits from the lovely Louise of Made by Miffy. The DIY kits came with fabric, elastic and instructions do-able enough for even a newbie sewing-machinist like me. (Previous blog post about the kits and Craft Show can be found here).
So while I was up in Brissy, and with the wonderful help of my mum, we finished sewing and elasticising the two Twirly Whirly Apron Skirty kits, the ones with the cute prints and matching spotty and stripey fabrics put together by Miffy:
And because I have four nieces, not two, I needed to whip up a couple of additional skirtys for my two youngest nieces. Using some gorgeous fabrics I picked out at the Stitches & Craft Show, some Gocco-printed linen patches for the aprons, and a quick trip to the local Spotlight, these were the next two skirtys:
The linen patches with the gorgeous raincloud illustration (hand-printed with the nifty Gocco screenprinter) are the handiwork of super-talented designer/crafter Lisa Tilse from The Red Thread, who also happens to be a fellow Brown Owl crafter and a big inspiration to me (hope you're feeling better soon, Lisa). I bought these linen patches from Lisa's stall at the Stitches & Craft Show last year, but you might be able to source some through her website here.
As a bit of personalised detail, I hand-embroidered the raindrops with silken thread colour-matched to each skirt, and was so thrilled with the result. It all came together really beautifully, and the skirtys all looked so darn cute on the nieces!
So a big, warm thanks to Louise for your wonderful skirty pattern, to Lisa for your beautiful patches, to my mum for all your sewing help, to sister-in-law Linda for your styling savvy, and to my sweet nieces for modelling the skirts even when they were REALLY tired after a big day out at GoMA :)
