On a Monday night at the end of September, I held my first bookbinding class at Berkelouw Cafe in Newtown, and the turnout was wonderful and the venue was gorgeous - I mean who wouldn't want to bind their own books in the ambient surrounds of a funky bookstore cafe in a fabulous converted warehouse building in a backstreet of Newtown while sipping tea and munching on tasty snacks?
And with a class of 16 busy bookbinders, I had nary a moment to snap a photo, so thankfully Fran was insightful and forward-thinking and (luckily for me) whipped out the camera for a few pics. Thanks again for these photos Fran :)
While you can't see the table much with all the bookbinding stuff scattered across it, the cafe owner tells me the table is about four times older than I am - it sure is a beauty. Our class filled the whole massive 14-seater table, and spilled out onto a few side tables as well.
A few of the participants posted photos of the books they made in class:
Karen's over here at her Flickr photostream, and Fran's over here at Miss Alison Regrets so drop by for a look at how nicely their books turned out!
A big heartfelt thank-you to all who came along for the class and to all those who've offered encouragement and support. Must say, I've been pleasantly surprised by how much interest people have shown towards bookbinding - seems everyone loves a little handmade book :)
