After the unfortunate demise of the Newtown Designers Market earlier this year (no thanks to the beaurocratic red-tape of the local Council), it's nice to see a new craft market has sprung up to fill the gap. Even moreso that the new-ish Eveleigh Artisan Market is hosted in a bigger, more iconic locale (Carriageworks), with space for parking, and with food and coffee stalls included. And I must admit, the huge, open-air shed that contains the scattered arrangement of stalls is a stunning location for markets.
Since March this year, the monthly Eveleigh Artisan Market has been held on the first Sunday of each month, and from what I hear from casual conversation with the stallholders, the Market has been going from strength to strength as word spreads and publicity does its thing.
Just yesterday, the bookswap girls and I all met at Carriageworks to wander around the craft stalls and take in some of the delights (and to take some home too of course). I was on a mission to find a birthday present for one of my little nieces, and so I was happy to come across a stall selling gorgeous handmade children's clothes by Nerida (Nedi) where I bought a sweet little embroidered corduroy pinafore.
And some of our other favourite finds included:
Handmade books and cards by Kathryn from GeriTom71 (foreground) and Caravan handmade jewellery by Linda Johnson (hanging in background)
Lusciously coloured and displayed felt scarves and brooches by Gill from Handmade Felt
The ever-popular fabric pouches (and pillows) by Lilypad Designs
And a surprise find: quirky handmade notebooks and zines by Nicholas from Various Things who, I gather, is rather quirky himself.
Some others that I don't have photographic evidence of, but are just as deserving of some attention:
